What circuit breaker repair involves

A breaker that will not reset, buzzes, runs warm, or trips for no clear reason is telling you something — but not always about itself. Most of the time the breaker is doing its job and the fault is on the circuit behind it; sometimes the breaker itself has failed, or is an obsolete type that can no longer be trusted. Either way the job is the same: find the real cause before anything is swapped, then repair or replace what actually needs it.

Can a circuit breaker actually be repaired, or does it get replaced?

A breaker itself is not repaired — if it has failed, it is replaced. Often, though, the breaker is fine and the repair is on the circuit that keeps tripping it. Which one it is gets established first.

Why does my breaker keep tripping even after I reset it?

My panel is a Federal Pacific. Is that a problem?
