How commercial lighting is done on a building that is still open

Lighting on occupied property is access, a layout you are keeping or changing, and a fixture you can service later. A lamp swap is not always the job.

  • Occupied access

A floor, a lot, or a garage that is still working is night work, lifts, and a plan that does not take the building dark. That is why a retrofit is quoted as a visit, not as a fixture count.

  • Layout vs lamp swap

Keeping the grid is an LED retrofit. Walls that moved, racks that went in, or a storefront the street cannot read is a lighting layout — office, retail, or warehouse on its own page.

  • Parking and emergency are different specs

Poles, aiming, and underground are a lot. A parking garage is dirty, low, and sometimes wet. Emergency heads and exit signs are the path out, not a brighter lobby.

  • Controls have to match the fixture

Occupancy, daylight, and a panel the occupants will actually operate fail when they are left at factory default or wired to the wrong load. Each of those is its own job, on its own page.

Commercial lighting questions

What to settle before a lift is scheduled.

Can you retrofit while the floor is open?

Yes. An LED lighting retrofit is drivers, existing controls, and a layout you are keeping, on a building that is still working.

Is warehouse lighting just bigger office fixtures?

No. Mounting height, rack aisles, and a fixture you can service over the racks are the job. Office troffers in a tall room leave the slab dark.

Do emergency lights come with a retrofit?

Not automatically. Unit-equipment or generator-backed heads on the path out are emergency lighting. Exit signs are their own listing.

What do you need from us?

What is still running, whether the layout is staying, and hours the floor or the lot has to stay usable. A reflected ceiling plan helps when the walls moved.

What are the types of commercial lighting?

Interior, site, emergency, and controls.
