How home electrification is sequenced so the panel is opened once

Getting off gas is a service question as much as an appliance question. The order the appliances come out decides how many times the panel is opened.

  • Name every appliance coming

A range, a dryer, a heat-pump water heater, and a mini-split are four dedicated runs. Listing them now is cheaper than opening the panel three times.

  • Capacity before the circuit

Whether the service can carry the list is the first number. The answer can be no. Load management can share a close service; 200 amps is only after that need is established.

  • One appliance vs the whole house

A single decided appliance has its own circuit page. Several coming off gas is a whole-home electrification assessment — the plan, not the first circuit.

  • The panel is part of the plan

Spare spaces, a subpanel, or a service change get named before the first homerun. That is why the assessment exists.

Home electrification questions

What to settle before the first gas appliance comes out.

Do I have to upgrade to 200 amps to go electric?

Not automatically. A close service can often share with load management. 200 amps is the increase after the need is established.

Can you do just the induction range?

Yes. One decided appliance is its own dedicated circuit — start at induction range circuit. This family is the order of work when more than one is coming.

Is this the same as a panel upgrade?

No. Whether you need more capacity is the panel upgrade question. Electrification is the circuits and the sequence once that answer is known.

What do you need from me?

The appliances you are adding, nameplate figures if you have them, and a photo of the panel with the door open. That is enough to say whether this is one circuit or a written plan.

What is home electrification?

Moving cooking, water heat, and space heat onto the electrical service, usually with a panel and circuit plan first.
