Wiring damaged by water, heat, pests, or a remodel — repaired if the rest is sound
Damaged wiring is a condition finding on a specific run. Water in a box, heat at a staple, rodents in an attic — the repair is the damaged section plus whatever it took with it. If the damage is widespread, the job becomes a rewire.

Damaged wiring often continues past what you can see
Damage from an event travels. Water wicks down a cable and corrodes terminations feet away; heat degrades insulation past the char; a rodent nest is never one bite. The assessment is how far it actually went, not just what shows.

Moisture follows the conductor and corrodes connections beyond the wet spot. Cutting back to sound copper, not to the edge of the stain, is the repair.

Insulation that cooked but did not blacken is still compromised. The replaced section extends to where the cable is genuinely sound.

A plumber’s cut, a roof leak, a fire — the electrical repair is scheduled around the trade that caused it and, when it matters, documented for an insurer.

A nail or a failed splice with no water, fire, or pests is electrical wiring repair.

Several runs can still be this job if they are local. If the chewing is throughout, that is a rewire, and we say so before anyone prices the house.
Can you repair a damaged wire?
A nicked or rodent-chewed cable gets a listed splice or a new run. A burned conductor needs that splice or a new cable.
